IPL Job vacancy announcement for climate change research fellow (Deadline February 10th, 2025)

Job Vacancy Announcement  Institut Pasteur du Laos (IPL) is a Lao National Institution under the authority of the Ministry of Health. IPL has received a mandate to fulfill activities of public service: Research and diagnostic on (emerging) infectious diseases and vector borne diseases / Training, Education and Capacity building / Technical assistance for investigation of epidemics.

IPL is currently looking for a:

CLIMATE CHANGE RESEARCH FELLOW.

RESPONSIBILITIES.

• Engage in knowledge transfer and capacity-building initiatives within local communities (e.g., take part in and lead trainings (leveraging the exemplar hubs), leverage and update the dedicated internal knowledge sharing platform, identify and develop webinar opportunities).
• Develop a landscaping analysis (with a stakeholders mapping, identification of relevant data that is already available, identity global good to be delivered by the end of their fellowship) with a focus on their country and region.
• Develop individual workplans and scope of work over the length of the fellowship. Identity challenges and opportunities within the workplans (e.g., what’s working / not working) and update the project manager and the Network more broadly.
• Conduct and lead research and data analysis on the confluence of climate and health (e.g. develop and implement data models to predict climate change impacts).
• Build collaborations within their host institute and government as well as relevant regional stakeholders to advocate for climate change and health related policies and practices.
• Communicate research findings effectively to diverse audiences, including policymakers, community leaders, and the public. Relatedly, participate in diplomacy, advocacy, and lobbying efforts to influence climate and health-related policies.
• Identify opportunities for collaboration with other Network fellows.
• Write and manage grant proposals to secure funding for climate change projects.
• Develop and implement data models to predict climate change impacts or at least understand them (optional).
• Mobilize around new topics or approaches, bringing innovation and new technologies into the institutes involved (e.g., development of a ‘global good’) (optional).

QUALIFICATIONS.

Essential qualifications.
A Lao national or someone with knowledge of the local language, culture, communities, and local stakeholders.
Masters (minimum) or early career PhD (e.g. epidemiology, biomedical engineering, or political science).
Working level proficiency in English.

Skills.
Highly motivated to develop himself/herself in this field.
Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Hard working and sense of organization.
Good sense of diplomacy.
Team player.

Experiences.
Within the field of climate change and health (see also key responsibilities above).
Experience with GIS and health data, entomology linked to environmental changes, communication on climate and health with stakeholders, knowledge management related to climate, women’s’ health and climate, experience in data analysis and modeling.
Has political prowess and advocacy experience (e.g., experience in diplomacy, communication, lobbying).
Experience with knowledge transfer and capacity building.
Experience in grant writing, communications.
