Junior Scientist for the entomology laboratory (Deadline July 3rd, 2026)

Institut Pasteur du Laos (IPL) is a Lao National Institution under the authority of the Ministry of Health. IPL has received a mandate to fulfil activities of public service: Research and diagnostics on (emerging) infectious diseases and vector-borne diseases / Training, Education and Capacity building / Technical assistance for investigation of epidemics. The entomology laboratory is currently involved in several research studies and needs to reinforce its team.

IPL is currently looking for a:

JUNIOR SCIENTIST FOR THE ENTOMOLOGY LAB

RESPONSIBILITIES

– As junior scientist, under the supervision of the head of laboratory, he/she will be involved in daily laboratory activities (morphological and molecular identification of insect vectors and detection of pathogens related to insect vectors) and in field missions (communication with related local authorities for insect vector collection, collection of insect vectors, records of related data, etc.);
– He/she will supervise the technicians’ team and take part of the communication with the external partners;
– He/she will assist the supervisor to prepare reports on the laboratory activities.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential qualifications
– MD with Master degree or Master degree (in public health, tropical medicine, biology or other domains related equivalent) or PhD degree (in public health, tropical medicine, biology).
– Good level in English (written and oral) and Lao.

Skills
– Highly motivated to develop himself/herself in the field of insect vectors and vector-borne diseases, well as to learn and to apply new technologies in the field of infectious diseases.
– Good knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
– Hard working and a sense of organization
– Good sense of diplomacy
– Good ability to work within a team
– Strong ability to work in the field

Additional Requirements
– Willingness to undertake frequent field missions throughout Laos.
– Ability to work outside normal working hours, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays, when required by field activities, research projects, or emergency response operations.
– Flexibility to adapt to changing work schedules and operational priorities.

Experiences
Previous working experiences in a diagnostic or research laboratory will be appreciated.
